Ok, so Aaron Eckhart has had a good career before he was Two-Face in Batman, but I couldn’t resist. The busy actor is slated to star in the upcoming biopic, The Drummer, about the life of Beach Boys drummer, Dennis Wilson. Often overshadowed by his <del>unstable</del> interesting brother, Brian, not much has been told about Dennis’ life (including a friendship with serial killer, Charles Manson).

Look for The Drummer to be out in theaters late 2012.

Chock rocker, Alice Cooper, recently talked with Seattle PI recently about hanging with The Who drummer, Keith Moon. It turns out, Cooper would hide from the wild man!

“When you party with Keith Moon your body really knows about it – -one time he stayed with me for a week, and I literally wasn’t allowed to sleep for seven days. Keith was like a battery that never ran out. It got to the stage with Keith where I’d hear he was in town and hide somewhere because I couldn’t face another bender.”

Remember a while back there was this big to-do about a rare, first edition Superman Comic that was for sale? No? Well it seems that it caught the attention of System of a Down drummer, John Dolmayan, who picked up the auctioned comic for a cool $317k. The price paid in 1938 for the original? 10 Cents.

Turns out, Dolmayan is a pretty big rare comic dealer and bought the comic for a client. Hmmm … maybe it’s Charlie Benante!

Source: LA Times

A rare copy of the first comic book featuring Superman has sold for $317,200 in an Internet auction. The previous owner had bought it for less than a buck.

It is one of the highest prices ever paid for a comic book, probably a testament to the volume’s rarity and excellent condition, said Stephen Fishler, co-owner of the auction site ComicConnect.com and its sister dealership, Metropolis Collectibles.

The winning bid for the 1938 edition of Action Comics No. 1, which features Superman lifting a car on its cover, was submitted Friday evening by John Dolmayan, drummer for the rock band System of a Down, according to managers at ComicConnect.com.

Dolmayan, who is also a dealer of rare comic books, said he acquired the Superman comic on behalf of a client he declined to identify.

“This is one of the premier books you could collect,” he said in a telephone interview. “It’s considered the Holy Grail of comic books. I talked to my client, and we made the move.”

Dolmayan said the client has “a small collection, but everything he has is incredible.”

Only about 100 copies of Action Comics No. 1 are known to exist, and they seldom come up for sale.

“Maybe in a booming economy, it would have done a hundred grand more, but in this economy, I think the price is great,” Fishler said.

The man who had previously owned the book purchased it in a secondhand store in the early 1950s when he was nine years old.

He paid 35 cents.

Looks like Alfred Publishing is really trying to make a series out of their On The Beaten Path books. Following up their award winning “On The Beaten Path: The Drummer’s Guide to Musical Styles and the Legends Who Defined Them,” and the associated book on Prog Rock, Alfred’s getting into the metal game with their latest release. I think their next release in this series should be jazz. I think there are tons of guys who would eat that up. Bring on the swing!

Lots of good metal drummers in this book, including the coffee-drinking Charlie Benante. Maybe he and this book can curl up next to a warm toasty fire on a winter’s night with his coffee mug. HARDCORE!!!

Basketball fans who attended the Saturday, February 7th Milwaukee Bucks game against the Detroit Pistons saw the debut of the team’s newest game night entertainers – the Cascio Interstate Milwaukee Bucks Wild! Drumline, sponsored by Cascio Interstate Music. The percussion ensemble performed for fans during the first quarter break of the February 7th game in Milwaukee.

“Cascio Interstate Music is proud to partner with the Milwaukee Bucks in an effort to provide another unique opportunity for Bucks fans to be entertained at select games,” said Cascio Interstate Music’s CEO Michael Houser. “All of us at Cascio believe that this is an excellent chance to experience the excitement of a live 21 member drumline and that this will help inspire and encourage fans of all ages to pick up any kind of musical instrument and play.”

The group was selected via an open audition that was advertised exclusively on www.bucks.com and features 21 percussionists – eight on snare drums, three on tenor drums, five on bass drums and five on cymbals. Cascio Interstate Music has outfitted the entire squad with Pearl equipment and instruments.

“We are excited to add the drumline to our game night repertoire and we’re energized by our partnership with Cascio Interstate Music,” said Bucks Vice President of Business Operations John Steinmiller. “These accomplished and trained percussionists will bring a high-energy performance to Bucks home games. Our relationship with Cascio Interstate will build on the Bucks Wild! success and offer additional cross-marketing opportunities.”

The Cascio Interstate Milwaukee Bucks Wild! Drumline will perform at eight of Milwaukee’s 18 remaining home games. The partnership includes title sponsorship of the drumline; drumline uniform presence; Bucks ticket and website activities; and collaborative projects between Cascio Interstate and the Bucks.
