The 5th Annual Drummer Cafe Community Drum Solo video has been uploaded to Drummercafe.com. There are some familiar faces from last year and a wide interpretation of this year’s loop. There’s even one guy doing a Dave Grohl and playing on a toy set! I’m still frustrated that I wasn’t able to make time to contribute a video this year but hey, hopefully next year! Interesting clip here. This shows a few guys demonstrating the visual effects seen when performing with Vic Firth’s LED Lite Stix. The sticks, which have a colored LED light on the beads, are a total gimmick, but some of these look cool. However… can anyone explain to me why Vinny Appice appears to be in a bathroom towards the end of the video?

Meinl Puts Out A Gimmick

File this under the “Never buy this unless at gunpoint” section. Meinl, in a flail of a money grab, is pushing their new Drum Rug… in zebra print. The starting price… wait for it. Wait for it… $130.00. No, that was not a joke. Meinl is trying to tell you that you need to spend ONE HUNDRED THIRTY DOLLARS on a drum mat, excuse me… ZEBRA PRINTED drum mat when Lowe’s sells the same thing (minus the obnoxious zebra print) for $15!!! Ugh… drives me insane.

John Dolmayan Buys Rare Superman Comic

Remember a while back there was this big to-do about a rare, first edition Superman Comic that was for sale? No? Well it seems that it caught the attention of System of a Down drummer, John Dolmayan, who picked up the auctioned comic for a cool $317k. The price paid in 1938 for the original? 10 Cents.

Turns out, Dolmayan is a pretty big rare comic dealer and bought the comic for a client. Hmmm … maybe it’s Charlie Benante!

A rare copy of the first comic book featuring Superman has sold for $317,200 in an Internet auction. The previous owner had bought it for less than a buck.

It is one of the highest prices ever paid for a comic book, probably a testament to the volume’s rarity and excellent condition, said Stephen Fishler, co-owner of the auction site ComicConnect.com and its sister dealership, Metropolis Collectibles.

The winning bid for the 1938 edition of Action Comics No. 1, which features Superman lifting a car on its cover, was submitted Friday evening by John Dolmayan, drummer for the rock band System of a Down, according to managers at ComicConnect.com.

Dolmayan, who is also a dealer of rare comic books, said he acquired the Superman comic on behalf of a client he declined to identify.

“This is one of the premier books you could collect,” he said in a telephone interview. “It’s considered the Holy Grail of comic books. I talked to my client, and we made the move.”

Dolmayan said the client has “a small collection, but everything he has is incredible.”

Only about 100 copies of Action Comics No. 1 are known to exist, and they seldom come up for sale.

“Maybe in a booming economy, it would have done a hundred grand more, but in this economy, I think the price is great,” Fishler said.

The man who had previously owned the book purchased it in a secondhand store in the early 1950s when he was nine years old.

He paid 35 cents.

New Rock Band Featuring Beatles To Be Released

Finally! A Rock Band game worth mentioning! The Beatles music will be featured on The Beatles: Rock Band, to be released this fall! To me it seems as if putting their music on Rock Band would be beneath the Fab Four (or whomever holds their copyrights now). Apparently I am wrong! One wonders what Ringo could have to say about this…
