My son and I got to play around on one of the lacquer Legacy kits at Sam Ashe in Raleigh, NC. GREAT sounding drums!! VERY LOUD with minimal input and they SOUND LIKE 1960s LUDWIGS! The kit was tuned for rock/metal (a bit lower pitched than I would prefer...the 18" floor tom was almost subsonic). There were two other high-end kits on the floor (one by the major Japanese label...the other by the vaunted U.S. manufacturer whose shells are "individually pitch-matched and marked") and the Ludwigs could absolutely convince you that they were worth every penny of the $3500+ price. They would also convince you that the two other high-end kits on the floor should only cost half as much!

WAY TO GO, LUDWIG!

I wish they'd come up with a better badge. These oval shaped things are getting pretty stale.
