In a victory for drumming purists everywhere, Pearl has announced that 311′s Chad Sexton has left his former company (Orange County Drums and Percussion) for greener pastures. Having endorsed Pearl’s hardware for awhile, he finally saw the light and wisely left ODCP. No brainer to me. Go Chad!

Pearl Drums is very proud to announce their newest addition to their artist roster, Chad Sexton of 311. As we all know, 311 is one of the premier acts of our time with a career spanning over 19 years and receiving multiple platinum and gold albums worldwide. 311 is set to release their latest installment to their legendary career with their new album “Uplifter” whose deluxe version includes an 80 minute documentary titled, “The Road to 311 Day”. Uplifter, which was produced by Bob Rock (Metallica, Bon Jovi, Motley Crue, Aerosmith), is scheduled to drop on June 2nd and their first single off the album, “Hey You” hits the airwaves on April 17th.
Chad Sexton is no stranger to the Pearl family. Being a long time Pearl Hardware endorsee, Chad recognized the company for its service and support of its artists, as well as the quality and dependability of Pearl Drums. Drumming in a major International act can put a heavy strain, and much demand, on your equipment each night. Being the leader in innovation and technology, Pearl has found a way to not only provide fantastic sounding drums, but also to make those drums durable and dependable every time you sit down behind them. Chad recognizes this, the same way 311 fans and drummers around the world recognize Chad’s unforgettable snare tone that he has obtained from his Pearl Free-Floating snare used throughout his tenure with 311. Those same renowned tones that have backed 311 for years are still prominent today with the upcoming release of “Uplifter”.
311 is starting back up where they left off, dominating the charts, traveling the world, and selling out amphitheatres on a nightly basis. The band is gearing up to embark on their spring tour from April 15-May 16, and their annual Summer Unity Tour which runs from June 3-July 12. Tickets and other information about the upcoming tours, and more information about “Uplifter” can be found at www.311.com or www.myspace.com/311. “Uplifter” hits stores on June 2nd so be sure to go out and pick up a copy wherever music is sold.

First things first. This review would not have been possible without the guys at Fork's Drum Closet allowing me to occupy their practice room, tool around with a VERY expensive piece of equipment, and have access their wi-fi so I could do some background research on this pedal. They are supporting drummer-talk and the review monkey by allowing me review their gear so do me a favor and if my review is what convinces you ...

For the upcoming tour with his new supergroup, Chickenfoot, Chad Smith is pulling out all the stops. He's been known to go over the top in kit design before, a couple times. This time around is no exception. Smith's teamed up with Orange County Chopper motorcycle artist Nub. No... that's really his name. The kit looks pretty flippin' sweet. Not a bad design. Check it our here.

In keeping with the recent sports trend, Pearl has announced they have reached a deal to be the official supplier of drums and percussion for the Pacific 10 Conference (Pac-10) men's and women's basketball tournaments. Read closely and you'll see that not all of the universities have agreed to use Pearl drum sets, just Pearl marching percussion. It looks like all the California schools (USC, UCLA, UC-Berkeley) might have other contracts they must honor. Interesting. ...

My kit smells of rich mahogany. Anchorman? Anyone? Anyways, Pearl really seems to be stepping up their game this year. Demon Drive, the jingle cajon, and now a stunning mahogany kit. I'm simply loving the look of this thing. Seriously. What else can I say? That's a beautiful kit.

More from Pearl's showcase at NAMM in Anaheim, CA. They've released a Jingle Cajon as part of their onslaught of gear. Looks pretty interesting to me. I like how this instrument sounds in my head. Looking forward to getting my hands on one. Cool video at Pearl's website.

The good folks at Pearl have released another innovative piece of gear. I've seen guys use auxiliary percussion in a kit setting before. Former cast member Ian "The Whipping Boy" McClellan used a djembe as a snare with congas as his toms once. But this is taking it to another level. Doesn't look like the popcorn snare comes with it, but if you put all this together, you would definitely have a hip setup.

Do I detect a slight dislike of OCDP there, Carter ?
Prefer cookie cutter companies to fully custom drum options ?
lol.
Just giving you a hard time. Happy Easter.
No. I just prefer companies with actual credibility and a reputation that extends beyond Travis Barker.
My dislike of ODCP has been well documented on the show.
Oh I know, I was just pickin’ :p
Did he switch to the Pearl that’s based in Japan or the Pearl based in Nash-Vegas?
(I’m just pickin’, too!)
Orange County Drums sound better.
Cool, i play Pearl drums… i’ve got a Forum in all black with all black hardwhere… yeah.
So you care more about a drum companies image and endorsees than their actual products sound, durability, and image?
