As we’ve discussed at length on the show, electronic drums will never (say it with me) never replace acoustic drums in terms of feel and overall sound. That said, Roland’s new TD-4S V-Kit is really nice. I’m usually not a fan of rubber pads on electronic kits, but this one looks pretty good. Simpler, more streamlined stands, easier cable-wrangling. I’m sold. Check out the demo video Johnny Rabb (Friend of The Show) did at this past Winter NAMM in Anaheim. Roland’s started shipping these monsters. MSRP looks to be in $1,200 range.

Roland announces that the latest addition to its industry leading V-Drums, the TD-4S V-DRUMS KIT ( http://www.rolandus.com/products/productdetails.aspx?ObjectId=996) is now available. With upgraded sounds, enhanced functionality and a friendly new design, the TD-4S is fun to play, comfortable to use, and great for practice.
The TD-4S includes the new TD-4 Percussion Sound Module which features all new expressive drum and percussion sounds, as well as new ambience effects that are optimized for drums. The included snare pad features the superior feel of Roland’s patented multi-layer mesh head for incredible dynamic response. A newly designed four-legged drum stand allows flexible and solid positioning of the pads and places the TD-4 module in the center for easy access. The TD-4S also includes Roland’s natural playing cymbals and expressive hi-hat control, giving drummers an amazing playing experience.

Yes, you read that headline right. Alesis has released an amp specifically designed for drummers with electronic kits. Supposedly you plug your electronic kit into the amp to hear yourself. The hook is that this amp apparently has an iPod dock built in to the frame. Another one of the alleged draws is that this will apparently afford the drummer less cables to use when playing to tracks... somehow. This just seems impractical to me. ...

“When I hit the muffling button…”
Something about that strikes me funny.
Does look like a sweet practice “kit”…and at around $995 street a pretty good price too.
