On August 18, 1962, Ringo Starr played his first gig with the Beatles replacing Pete Best. To honor this day, here is a video of the Beatles’ first appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show on Feb 8, 1964.

If you're in the mood for some vintage gear, or gear that certainly appears vintage, this will be right up your alley. Ludwig has announced they are adding onto their Legacy line with a rendition of the kit Ringo Starr played on The Beatles' groundbreaking Ed Sullivan Show appearance in 1964. Looks pretty nice to me. The only real news here is that Ludwig is releasing the Black Oyster Pearl finish with the Legacy line. ...

Ringo Starr doesn't want to hear from you. If you do write, your letter will end up in the trash. After 45 years of stardom, he doesn't want to spend any more time answering mail or sending signed photos back to fans.
The fan fatigue led the former Beatles drummer to post a sometimes angry sounding short video clip on his Web site telling fans that any mail sent to him after Oct. 20 will ...

"I will never forget the expression when we played the first notes of 'Long Tall Sally' on the kids' faces," Best recalled Friday afternoon during a telephone interview from the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Buffalo, N.Y., where his band was scheduled to play that night.
Suddenly, there was a great roar that ushered in the beginning of what was to become Beatlemania, Best recalled.
"It was a moment of magic," the now 66-year-old Best said.
But Best's ...

Ringo Starr has been talking about how the end of national service in Britain actually made it possible for The Beatles to exist. The Legendary drummer from one of the greatest bands our world has ever seen has claimed that the reason for the huge pop explosion in the 60’s was only made possible because people no longer had to join the army.
Starr said “We were the first generation that didn’t go into the ...

Ringo recently spoke about some candid feelings regarding his place in the Beatles' legacy
"Within Liverpool, I was a lot more well know than them. Rory and the Hurricanes were big shots in the city. We had the suits. That was our claim to fame. The Beatles were lucky to get me. It wasn't just that I was a big shot; I was a cool drummer."

To me it seems as if putting their music on Rock Band would be beneath the Fab Four (or whomever holds their copyrights now). Apparently I am wrong! Thanks for posting this! I’d never seen the whole Ed Sullivan performance. I’d just like to mention that I think it’s notable that out of all the Beatles, it was Ringo who received the most fan mail.
Not to be rude…but sometimes I think history makes men, not the other way around. Personally I think Ringo Starr is one of the most overrated drummers EVER. He never played anything back in the day that was technically sound. No mind blowing speed or chops, he was just in a popular band. Meg White could have even played that gig…no offense cause I know alot of you can’t take the criticism but I don’t care. People learn to play drums to Beatles and AC/DC albums and you know why…..cause they’re easy to learn. Someone had to say it!
Wow … so chops are what make drummers great? Ask ANY drummer worth their salt about Ringo Starr, and they’ll comment on his musicianship, time, and his ability to play a part PERFECT for any song.
P.S. No need for insults (re: “cause I know alot of you can’t take the criticism). Who is this “you” you are referring to?
