Phil Collins Retires

More than 100 million album sales into his career and roughly two thirds of the way through our interview, Phil Collins casually serves notice of his retirement. Having joined a reformed Genesis for a world tour last year, he says he’s through with the touring and there’s no album planned. He’ll write, but only because he doesn’t know how to stop writing.

  3. It seems that Phil took a beating from the music press in the UK for his ballads in the 80’s. While these aren’t my favorite of his tunes he made buckets of money so someone was buying them. What people don’t realize is that he is an unbelievably good drummer. All of the early Genesis stuff (with Peter Gabriel) is hot. I have seen Phil a couple of times and he obviously loves performing - I wouldn’t be surprised if this is short-lived.
