“Lay It Down,” Green’s first studio album since 2005′s “Everything’s OK,” features co-production by Ahmir “?uestlove” Thompson and keyboardist James Poyser. The set, which is due in stores May 27, also features guest shots from John Legend, Corinne Bailey Rae and Anthony Hamilton, among others.

“I’ve never heard anything quite like it, ’cause I’ve never had anybody produce me other than Willie Mitchell,” Green told Billboard.com last summer. “And when you give these young kids a shot at it, it’s interesting to see the art they make. It’s beautiful.”

… the new DTXTREME III kits promise to set the standard for sound and function. In addition to redesigned cymbals, a new kick tower, and an all-new module, the sets use the same technology that powers the supercharged Yamaha MOTIF XS synthesizer.

In addition to over 1,000 onboard drum, percussion and special effect voices, the module includes over 100 General MIDI voices. With the optional memory installed, 512 MB of sampling allows players to trigger a large library of custom sounds. Combine the stacking and layering capabilities of 100 voices with other advanced features, and the DTXTREME III is a complete workstation for drummers. Both DTXTREME III versions include 3-zone drum and cymbal pads, USB connectivity and an advanced internal sequencer.

Alfred Releases The Drummer’s Guide to Fills

April 12, 2008 in Books/Mags/Web, Education, News by Dave Kropf

Alfred Publishing has just put out a new book by Pete Sweeny called Drummer’s Guide to Fills. The publisher says:

Pete Sweeney’s Drummer’s Guide to Fills is designed to expand drumming vocabulary by teaching drummers not just how to play fills, but when and where to play them. The book offers a step-by-step approach to playing fills of varying lengths, as well as different approaches to resolving fills and returning to the groove. Drummer’s Guide to Fills features fills all drummers can use to add excitement to different sections of a song and even use as the building blocks of a solo. Drummers can learn fills in many styles, from rock to funk to jazz, plus a “melodic” approach to fills that allows further embellishment on basics. The included CD accents the book by demonstrating all of the musical examples.

The book retails for $19.95. Dang .. now I need to get MY book on fills out there! :)
