PDP Platinum Series - One Step Closer to DW
PDP recently unveiled their new platinum series drums that boast exotic finishes, new wraps, custom set-ups, and snazzy new tube-style lugs.
With new Platinum Series drums, we raised the bar several notches to offer drummers everything they’d expect from a high-end kit without the lofty price tag. Sure, it might be a production kit, but with a wide variety of popular sizes to choose from, it’s easy to customize your very own set-up. Add to that all-Maple shells, new dual-oval tube lugs, STM (Suspension Tom Mounts), True- Pitch Tuning System and so much more, and you’ll agree, it doesn’t get much more serious than this.
I’m still a little wary about the hardware quality with PDP kits, but these things look great. It will be interesting to see how they do in the market. Thanks ThomasC for posting about this on the boards!

Dave, about your thoughts on the hardware on the PDP kits, the hardware isn’t that bad. I have a PDP CXR kit and the hardware is alright. The pedals aren’t that great (I use them with my old CB percussion kit), but there are some worse pedals out there. Anyone who is going to buy a custom kit is probably going to have some better pedals in the first place. The stands work great though.
Hey, I’ve been looking around online trying to find more info and others thoughts on Pacific’s new line and ran across this site. Just wanted to share my opinion on them real quick..
I’ve been playing drums for close to 16 years and have some experience with buying/selling kits, I have worked in drum sales before at Guitar Center and basically have seen the Pacific series from the beginning. Long story short, I bought the Platinum Series Tobacco burst (satin oil) set (22 kick,10,12,14,16 - toms) and all I have to say is this series is worth every penny!
The toms are 8 ply american maple and they sing.. they’re boomy.. they sound really good. Pretty much this kit sounds killer and looks like a very high end DW or custom kit. The new lugs also make the kit look better than any other PDP design. When PDP first started I thought the kits were solid for the money, maple shell’s for under a grand — not much competition in that market but they’ve really set a new bar for your average drum kit. I only mean average because it’s not a low end kit and it’s not a bank account consuming DW.
Anyway, two thumbs way up on this series. Go try one out, I wouldn’t rule the kit out if it’s not in tune or has the factory heads on it. The kit I bought sounded like poo in the store but I put Coated Emperors and an EMAD on the kick and everything was cool after that.
i really want a platinum series kit but am having a very hard time finding them for sale anywhere on the internet(music123, musicians friend, guitar center, ect..). i want to order a complete kit. any help? do i have to actually place a custom order through a music store? thanks
