Julian Pavone, who at two years old made headlines around the world with his talents as a drummer, has been invited to study at the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston this summer.
The invitation came from Dom Famularo, Berklee instructor/artist-in- residence, who, in a letter to Julian’s parents, Mr. Bernadino and Dr. Lisa Pavone, wrote:
“I am very impressed with Julian’s natural talent. He is driven, passionate, focused and such a happy child. I would be honored to work with Julian. He already has a strong foundation in music. Julian is a prodigy.”

Jeez, you don’t even have to be potty trained or have a firm grasp of the english language to get into Berklee today.
I was double his age when I was doing what he was doing…that’s crazy. The part with the soother in his mouth is just the icing on the cake!
Im sorry to sound like a jerk but…..prodigy? I KNOW hes only 3 but there was no indication of being a prodigy. My cat could probablly make equal noise on my drums. Again I know I sound like a jerk but come on Mr. Famularo…a PRODIGY???
I think I agree. I honestly expected better from him before I saw the video.
It’s the fact that he’s only a toddler. He SHOULD just be learning to walk and talk, but he’s already playing in fairly decent time with more independence than some of my teenaged drum students. I don’t exactly agree with the “prodigy” thing, but the kid’s got a LOT more potential than most. All I can think of is Tony Royster Jr when I see this. How will THIS kid sound at 12?
Think about all the possibilities that will open up for that kid when his legs can reach the pedals…
You know, I’m just digging the fact that someone has their kid immersed in music at such a young age. I think it’s GREAT. Let him go to Berklee and spend some time with Dom — who’s exceptionally generous in wanting to nurture this little guy’s interest.
I agree with you guys. He’s great for a three year old, don’t get me wrong, but I’m not sure if I would call him a prodigy. After he studies with Dom at Berklee, maybe, but for now, not so much.
This kid really is a prodigy, I went to his website seen him play he is absolutly amazing!!!

I tried to play the drums for awhile, I have to say I got nowhere near what this kid is doing at 2, so in my opinion he’s a prodigy !! I couldnt do it not even with tons of practice!
Following your Earthtimes”story” link, it starts to make sense. Note that all of the information about this sweet little kid is in a *press release his dad put out*. How scary stage-parent is that?!? I wish this kid the best of luck. With the pressure his parents seem to be giving already, he’ll need it. Also - the Berklee claim was debunked here by a guy who called Berklee for clarification: http://thephoenix.com/article_ektid58492.aspx

Julian clearly shows the passion, devotion and great energy for the drums. The appreciation and attraction he feels toward music is a sure fact.
I mat Julian few weeks ago, I played couple Latin tunes for him and his attitude was very enthusiastic, and attentive.
He possesses the qualities and potential of a true drummer and percussion player. Possibilities that will open up are a potential for the talented world youngest drummer player. I can’t wait to hear him playing at 7.
As a guitar and mandolin professor at the University of Michigan-Flint, and FIM (Flint Institute of Music) I would be honored to work with Julian.
He is amazing and obviously talented as well. I hope that Berklee does serve him well and I am sure it wll. They have worked with some great talent there. I hope that Julian continues to shine and is an example of the fact that children are special and these qualities need to be recognized and encouraged… I also took at look at Julian’s web-site and that incredible, I cannot believe he has world recognition…GOOD FOR YOU JULIAN…stay with it…
Julian is a amazing child that has a lot of talent and will go very far with all the talent he has, Berlee should be honored to have him at there school, Good luck to Julian
I had the chance to see this article. I have seen three kids, very young and talented recently…Julian Pavone (4), Igor Falecki (6)and Scottie Madonia (8).
These children are passionate and very talented! So young and driven to play music! Such a positive direction! As a teacher and parent, I feel when a child shows this natural ability, we must fuel it. Julian is not even 4 and he shows very mature technique, time and feel! His ear for music is wonderful and to experience him play is magic! I celebrate his family for guiding him and trying to support his desire! I am sure it is not easy, but important for each of these kids to be happy! And they are for sure when they are playing! Check out each child on youtube and see for yourself! In the drumming industry we can use some young role models to get more kids to play drums and less electronic games! Julian playing drums and bringing joy to people is a very positive energy we all should support. Recently, Oprah had him on the show! She loved his spirit and this is what it is all about! Let’s keep a positive, mature focus on young talent and be blessed as we enjoy it! Thanks!
